We would like to welcome you to our university. To make your start as easy as possible, we have put together some information for you.

User account

You will find the access data in the mailing of the enrollment documents.

Note: You must activate your account and change the initial password in the process. You can do this in the IDM portal.

If you have forgotten your password, please contact the Service Desk of the URZ. There, your password can be reset to the initial password.

Note:If the initial password is no longer available, you must come in person to the URZ (room 3.04).

.

If you already have an account, it will simply continue to run. You do not need to do anything else. To do so, please contact the IDM team (idm [at] tu-freiberg.de (idm[at]tu-freiberg[dot]de)).

If you have received a second, additional account, please report to the IT service desk via ticket. We will combine both into one afterwards.

.

You can request a guest account for such cases. We will convert your account into a guest account, through which you will retain access to your central resources for a certain period of time.

Campus network

The WLAN Eduroam is available on the entire campus. To make the correct settings on your device, please follow the corresponding instructions.

Note: Please pay attention to the version of your operating system! On an Android 11 system, there is a different installation recommendation than on a lower version.

.

You can also access the campus data network while mobile (Eduroam or at home). We offer VPN access for this purpose. At our instructions you will find help to configure the access on your end device.

.

The data center is not responsible for providing the WLAN in the dormitory. This service is provided by the team of the StuNet.

.

Collaboration

We offer a cloud based on Nextcloud. Via this, files can be edited together and exchanged in an uncomplicated way.

.

Each user gets their own home drive, with up to 1 TB of storage available for university documents.

Use the step-by-step guide to mount this network drive.

.

Teaching

OPAL is a Saxony-wide online platform for academic teaching and learning. The Education Portal Saxony is maintained by the Media Center and offers forums, blog, wikis, virtual classrooms and much more. Participation in courses is coordinated centrally via OPAL.

The computing center operates its own BigBlueButton cluster for video conferencing. This enables video conferencing for teaching as well as project meetings.

Software

The University Computer Center provides software centrally in the form of server licenses and campus licenses for teaching and research. Particularly noteworthy here are framework agreements that allow private use in addition to official use (e.g., Microsoft state contract).

Through the state contract (CampusSachsen), students can use the Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus product free of charge. The subscription requires a new registration on the website for authentication at least every 180 days. Otherwise, documents will only be readable in read-only mode.

Communication

As a new student, you will automatically receive an e-mail address. You can access this via Horde-Webmail.

There is a Uni-Info distribution list (UNIINFO-L) through which information from/to TU members can be communicated.

You can receive these messages via email or also subscribe to the RSS feed.

For chats via instant messaging, we provide a central Matrix instance. All members of the university can use this to communicate securely
