If you want to use RustDesk in conjunction with our own TUBAF server, there are several configuration methods available to you. This allows you to benefit from a direct, secure and data protection-compliant connection that is ideal for sensitive use cases outside of traditional remote maintenance by the service desk.
Prerequisites
For each of the following methods, either a server key or a config string is required. For security reasons, this information is not provided publicly.
You can request a PDF with the required configuration data and detailed step-by-step instructions for each of the following configuration methods from the IT Service Desk.
Important note:
Please address your request to the IT Service Desk, stating your planned use case.
Requests to use RustDesk with the aim of circumventing two-factor authentication will be rejected.

Available configuration methods
- Method A: Manual configuration
The server settings are entered directly in the RustDesk user interface. This method is particularly suitable for single-user systems or manual tests. - Method B: Pasting the config string from the clipboard
The config string is simply pasted into RustDesk. This method enables quick setup without manually filling in the fields. - Method C: Automatic configuration via deployment scripts
Automated scripts are available for centralised setup in larger environments. This method is particularly suitable for IT administrations with multiple target systems. - Method D: Using the command line with
--configcommand
Advanced users can configure RustDesk directly via the command line. The--configparameter allows all settings to be passed without user interaction.
Safety note
For security reasons, we strongly recommend activating two-factor authentication (2FA) in RustDesk. This provides additional protection against unauthorised access to your system.
For detailed instructions on how to set up two-factor authentication, please refer to the official RustDesk 2FA documentation.
