The central bodies of the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg are the University Council, the Rectorate, the Senate and the Extended Senate.

Rectorate
The Rectorate represents the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg externally. In addition to the Rector, the Rectorate includes a Chancellor and three part-time Vice-Rectors.

University Council
The University Council makes recommendations on profile development and improving the performance and competitiveness of the university. In fulfilling its tasks, it takes into account the university development planning of the Free State of Saxony in accordance with Section 11 (1) and the target agreements in accordance with Section 11 (2) SächsHSG.

Senate
The Senate is the central body of the university in which all university members are represented within their groups and can discuss and advise on the organisation and problems of their university. The Senate forum contributes to the transparency and openness of decision-making processes, promotes trusting cooperation between groups and faculties and enables joint decision-making at the university.

Extended Senate
The Extended Senate is responsible for electing and deselecting the Rector and for passing resolutions on the basic regulations and their amendment (Section 86 (2) SächsHSG). The Extended Senate consists of the voting members of the Senate and the directly elected representatives of the groups.
