Participate in a conference

To take part, enter the virtual room at the agreed time. All you need is a web browser. We recommend Google Chrome. In principle, it also works with any other browser, but the resource utilisation is not ideal.

For protected rooms, enter the access code.

Three variants

There are different ways to participate in a web conference (active speaker or listener).

  1. Listen only:
    • Write questions and comments in the chat
    • Microphone use can be activated later ("End audio" listener icon)
  2. With microphone:
    • Important: Allow web browser to access microphone
    • Try echo test until quality is good
    • Use headset with microphone to suppress background noise
  3. With phone:
    • First enter the room via web browser for PIN
    • Call the specified number and enter the PIN
    • Note: This is only possible once another participant has opened the conference via the web browser and activated their audio in the browser.

Important notes

  • Enter your correct name before participating
  • Do not use the camera if it is a lecture or a web seminar with many participants
  • Test the microphone beforehand
  • Mute the microphone first and only activate it if necessary (left button at the bottom)
  • Do not use intermediate sounds and background noise (e.g. snorting, operating the keyboard)

Customise the view

During the conference, you can set up the environment yourself, e.g. enlarge the presentation or videos. The moderator does not specify the display.

You can see in the bar on the left if something changes in the chat or in the notes.

You can switch the conference to full screen mode via the "Dot menu" at the top right. If you have problems with the computing power of your device or a low internet data rate, you can switch off the videos of all participants and deactivate animations under "Settings → Data volume saving". All other participants will continue to see videos. You will also find the "Leave conference" option here, which you can use to end your participation in the conference.
