Shibboleth is an application system for authentication and authorisation of various applications such as the e-learning service Opal or the web mail application 'Horde'. If you want to use a web application protected with Shibboleth, you will be temporarily redirected to us (the so-called Identity Provider, IdP) by the operator of this application (the so-called Service Provider, SP).

On a login service located at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, you log in with your central login data, i.e. your login data remains physically on TU Freiberg servers and is not transmitted to the service provider. You will then be automatically redirected to the service provider's Shibboleth-protected application. Based on the login data, the service provider can now decide whether to grant you access to the requested web application.
