The mission statement of TU Bergakademie Freiberg stands for the realisation of equal opportunities and thus equality between women and men as well as for family friendliness and open encounters with people, cultures and ideas.
In addition to the targeted promotion of young female academics through personal motivation and intensive support, the focus of gender equality work is also on the integration of gender equality indicators into quality management and the expansion of gender issues in teaching and research.
In addition, the aim is to increase acceptance of gender equality work and to achieve greater awareness of gender aspects through gender-equitable language as well as through further training and counselling services. Overall, the aim is to improve the conditions for reconciling work and family life for both genders to such an extent that there are no gender-related disadvantages.
In order to anchor equality, equal opportunities and family friendliness even more firmly in its objectives and procedures, TU Bergakademie Freiberg adopted an equality concept for the first time in spring 2011, which formulates targets and measures for equality work up to 2020. In 2017 and 2021, the concept was revised, adapted to current circumstances and confirmed by the Senate as the Equal Opportunities Concept of TU Bergakademie Freiberg - 2022-2030.
In January 2013, the Senate adopted the Final Report of TU Bergakademie Freiberg on the Implementation of the DFG's Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality.

Areas of action
In order to set priorities that are underpinned by targeted and clearly structured measures, the Equal Opportunities Concept of TU Bergakademie Freiberg defines six areas of action. They are intended to make it possible to realise gender equality in all member groups and at the various educational and career levels in academic practice.
Objective: Appoint excellent female scientists to professorships and fill management positions with women.
For obtaining doctorates, habilitations and junior professorships with the aim of identifying and supporting specific paths for academic careers for women (especially those who wish to have children), facilitating international networking and thus significantly increasing the number of successful degrees. In other words, the programme provides targeted support for young female academics through personal motivation and intensive mentoring, taking particular account of the interfaces between school, university and career as well as the family start-up phase.
With the aim of inspiring even more young women to study maths, science and engineering subjects. The TU Bergakademie Freiberg is pursuing a variety of measures to attract female and male students. Increasing the proportion of female students, particularly in the STEM degree programmes, is a focal point within the extensive, diverse and target group-oriented range of study information and counselling measures.
With the aim of making it easier for young parents to continue their education or career. The TU Bergakademie Freiberg promotes opportunities for free and flexible organisation of time and working conditions in order to increase family friendliness and make it easier to care for children or relatives in need of care.
With the aim of increasing the participation of women in academia and science management
With the aim of sustainably anchoring the topic of gender equality in the university by increasing communication and transparency while raising awareness and sensitisation

They provide support in cases of hostility and any form of discrimination, be it on the grounds of gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, religion or ideology, skin colour, disability or age.
TU Bergakademie Freiberg is a member of Initiative Klischeefrei
Since June 2021, TU Bergakademie Freiberg has been a partner organisation of the Initiative Klischeefrei, which campaigns for career and study choices free of gender stereotypes. With our membership, we as a university would like to actively contribute to further reducing prejudices in career and study choices and counteracting outdated role models. It is a good opportunity to draw attention to the promotion of women in STEM degree programmes and diversity at the university.
