The operating system Microsoft Windows 10 may be used by employees of TU Bergakademie Freiberg. This is done on the basis of the Saxony state contract.

This requires an already licensed Windows, i.e. a fully qualified Windows operating system from Windows Vista.

Important: The use may only take place on official devices.

Procedure for procurement

1. Notify the URZ of your procurement request (e-mail to servicedesk [at] tu-freiberg [dot] de)
2. Read the terms of use and accept them in writing
3. Windows 10 data carrier will be delivered as a download

Note: This procedure also applies to the procurement of other official software products at the URZ.

Follow-up remarks on the Windows 10 image

Windows 10 communicates with the Microsoft servers. There are only a few settings to prevent this contact during installation. The use of Windows 10 may therefore violate German data protection law.

You will receive a Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC image. The Stabsstelle Informationssicherheit der TU Dresden has developed guidelines for the data protection-compliant use of Windows 10. On this basis, we have created an image for use at TU Bergakademie Freiberg and TU Dresden.

• only receives security updates, but no feature updates
• includes Internet Explorer 11 (no "Edge")
• includes no "Cortana" (voice assistant)
• includes no app store

For devices that cannot install the LTSC edition for technical reasons (e.g. Microsoft Surface Tablets or Microsoft Windows tablets) or if it is necessary for business purposes, e.g. to access applications from the Microsoft Store, a customised Enterprise Education edition is also available. This also contains the changes that have been made in collaboration with TU Dresden and can be obtained via the above-mentioned procurement channel.
