The Forum Energiewende e.V. is a non-profit organisation for the promotion of science and research in the field of sustainable energy systems in close cooperation with the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg (TU BAF). The aim of the association is to promote a broad and technically sound discussion on the state of the energy transition and to critically scrutinise current developments. The aim is to present as broad a spectrum of assessments and solution options as possible and serve as a basis for deriving political and economic options for action.
While there is a broad consensus on the necessity of the energy transition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, its implementation often lags behind the targets that have been set. There are numerous necessary measures, but also technical and organisational options that need to be weighed up and evaluated. Ecological, economic and social factors play a role here, some of which are in conflict.
The Forum Energiewende e.V. addresses this area of conflict. In addition to numerous smaller campaigns, the association's main event is the annual "Freiberg Congress on the Energy Transition".
