The TU Bergakademie Freiberg provides funding on application to support projects for gender equality and equal opportunities. The funding includes general equality measures, doctoral degree funding and targeted post-doc funding (Mary Hegeler scholarship).

For all three funding lines, the deadline for submitting applications is 28 February and 31 August. However, in justified cases of need, applications can also be submitted outside this period.

General promotion of equality

Funding is available, for example:

  • Measures to promote family friendliness
  • Projects for the targeted career advancement of young female scientists (success team or similar)
  • Events, training and further education measures (scientific conferences are not funded from this fund!)
  • Measures to attract female high school graduates to STEM subjects

Applications should be sent to the Rectorate - Office of the Rector.

Scholarship to promote the completion of doctorates

The scholarship serves to close a funding gap for a maximum of 6 months when completing a doctorate. The aim is to enable women and fathers with very busy families (e.g. due to parental leave or caring for a child during prolonged illness) as well as doctoral candidates in difficult life situations to complete a doctorate quickly and successfully due to the dual burden of family and career or reasons for which they are not responsible.

Cost sharing by the faculty or the doctoral candidate's institute is not required.

Please note that prior to submitting an application, a consultation obligation exists with the equal opportunities officer of the faculty or with the representatives of the Rectorate Commission on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion. The purpose of the consultation is to present the current status of the doctorate, including the submission of chapters already written, publications and the application for a viva voce examination, which may have been approved or at least prepared, in order to assess the chances of success of completing the doctorate within six months and to discuss and initiate concrete steps to complete the doctorate.
