Accident insurance during studies
Students enrolled at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg are covered by statutory accident insurance from Unfallkasse Sachsen in all study-related activities that are directly connected to the university and its facilities (e.g. library) in terms of time and space, as well as on the related journeys. Even the journey to the enrolment and back home from the deregistration are insured.
For example, the participation in organised events such as student sports activities and Students´ Days are also insured.
The responsible accident insurer is
Unfallkasse Sachsen
Postfach 42
01651 Meißen
Tel: 03521 724-0
https://www.uksachsen.de/
The insurance protection applies to personal injuries.
If a student suffers an accident, an emergency doctor should be consulted if possible.
If a students has an accident, he/she should go to see a so called “Durchgangsarzt” (accident insurance consultant).
The accident insurance consultant in Brand-Erbisdorf or rather the emergency room in Freiberg are:
- Dr. med. P. Mutze in the Freiberg Hospital, Donatsring 20, Tel.: 03731-770-0
- Dr. med. Ulf Schneider, August-Bebel-Straße 42-43, 09618 Brand-Erbisdorf, Tel.: 037322-39758
- Dr. med. Volker Schorge, Dörnerzaunstraße 1, 09599 Freiberg, Tel.: 03731-2797-100
The accident insurance consultant has to be informed that Unfallkasse Sachsen is the responsible insurer and that the accident occurred in context to the studies.
The accident insurance consultant prepares a report. Nevertheless, all students have to fill in a so called “Unfallanzeige” (accident notification) additionally.
Occupational accident notification form: „Unfallanzeige für Kinder in Tageseinrichtungen Schüler und Studierende“
(Accident notification for children in day-care facilities, pupils and students)
Please report the accident as soon as fast as possible to your relevant reference person or to the OHAS officer (Stabsstelle Arbeitssicherheit). Fill in the above mentioned form and send it to the OHAS officer and not directly to Unfallkasse Sachsen.
A notification is required for every accident.
Exceptions:
Internships at companies are usually covered by the accident insurer of the company concerned. The company is a member of an employers´ insurance liability association and is required to brief new employees, provide personal protection equipment, and report accidents. (The Maschinenbau- und Metall-Berufsgenossenschaft [trade association for mechanical engineering and the metal industry] is responsible in this regard for engineering students doing an internship at a metal company, for example.)
Accidents at work or on the journey there and back in connection with a basic internship or a practical semester need to be handled under the responsibility of the company in question. Company internship-related activities abroad and/or study periods abroad are not covered by the statutory accident insurance. A private accident insurance should be bought for this, or the private health insurance expanded, possibly in combination with a disability insurance and/or liability insurance.
Persons taking part in excursions abroad that are organized and managed by TU Bergakademie Freiberg are only covered by accident insurance to the extent that doctor´s fees will be reimbursed later on. A private accident insurance should also be bought in this case to provide coverage for a possible return transport, too.
Students about to take their diploma are only covered by the statutory accident insurance if the diploma activity is performed in the buildings of the university.
Accidents in the private life are not insured with Unfallkasse Sachsen.
