We would like to inform you about an important technical change in our IT infrastructure: On Tuesday, 10 December 2024, the university's central mail gateway will be replaced by a new system. Our current provider Sophos UTM will be discontinued at the end of the year.

What are the advantages for you?

The new provider improves spam detection so that significantly fewer spam mails are delivered. The system also offers extensive security mechanisms to protect against malicious content and phishing attacks:

  • Dealing with external emails
  • Security measures for active content and links
    • Removal of active content
    • Click protection mechanism
    • Outbreak protection and sandbox

For more information, see the guide.

New web interface

After the changeover, you will be able to access the quarantine web interface for withheld emails and to manage the blocklists via a new URL https://mailgateway.hrz.tu-freiberg.de/. The previous address will then no longer be available.

Note on use: The new URL is only accessible within the campus network and from the VPN.

You can find detailed documentation on how to use the new web interface on this guide.

Attention: No automatic migration of the created lists

When changing providers, it is unfortunately not possible to migrate any sender whitelists or sender blacklists that may have been created. These must be recreated, i.e. transferred manually.
