Visit us for a week

The student university takes place from 30 June to 7 August 2025 in small groups at the university. You can expect an exciting and informative time during which you will have the opportunity to get a taste of various fields of study and gain new experiences.

We offer the following project weeks during the 2025 holidays:

Materials Week: High-tech materials for the world of tomorrow: 30 June - 4 July 2025

Courses of study: Foundry Technology, Materials Science and Materials Technology, Nanotechnology

Are you curious about the fascinating world of materials? Would you like to understand how they influence our daily lives and what role they will play in the technology of tomorrow?

In an exciting and educational week, you will delve deep into the world of materials and discover their potential for innovation and progress.

Together with other students, you will learn about the diversity of materials, their production and processing. You will carry out experiments in the laboratories and halls of the institutes and go on excursions to companies in the region, so that the focus is primarily on practical relevance.

You will also have the opportunity to talk to scientists and our students. Let yourself be carried away by the fascination of materials and get a taste of university life at TUBAF for a few days.

Management Camp: 30 June - 3 July 2025

Study programmes: Business Administration, Business and Law, Industrial Engineering

Developing innovations, attracting talent, securing financing and organising sales - the everyday life of start-ups, SMEs and global players is characterised by numerous exciting challenges. How are decisions actually made in companies? What skills do tomorrow's managers need? And why are some companies simply more successful than others?

The Management Camp will answer these and other questions and offer insights into the world of economics and the work of various professorships in this field. A varied programme with interesting lectures, interactive workshops, tours and much more will show how business works. We cordially invite you to get to know economics better and experience studying at first hand.

Geo Week "Spaceship Earth": 07 July - 11 July 2025

Study programmes: Geology/Mineralogy, Environmental Systems Science - Geoecology, Geoinformatics and Geophysics

The geosphere is the habitat of mankind - rocks, earth, water - almost everything is made of it. Who thinks about the fact that water is the number one foodstuff when brushing their teeth and drinking cola? The sensible and sustainable use of our earth and its geopotential (water, mineral raw materials, energy raw materials) and the preservation of the environment are one of the greatest tasks of our century.

And geoscientists, i.e. geologists, geophysicists, mineralogists, geoecologists and geoinformaticians, are the first to be called upon to do this. You will gain an insight into many areas of work and research in the geosciences degree programmes - in the laboratory, in the mine and on excursions!

Geo Week "Fascination Geoengineering": 14 July - 18 July 2025

Study programme: Geoengineering, Space Resources - Space Technologies

As a mining town, Freiberg not only offers numerous interesting treasures above ground. There is a lot for inquisitive scientists to discover and explore underground in particular. During the project week at the Faculty of Geosciences, Geotechnics and Mining, participants will gain exciting insights into various processes and methods for the extraction and processing of mineral resources, the use of specialised machinery and rock and soil mechanics investigations. In addition, answers to questions about various engineering structures such as bridges and tunnels will be discussed. Participation and experimentation are expressly encouraged at our test stands. Practice-oriented excursions and various opportunities to make contact with students and employees are also part of the week's programme.

Technology week: 21 July - 25 July 2025

Study programme: Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering (Energy Process Engineering, Mechanical Process Engineering, Thermal Process Engineering, Environmental and Natural Materials Process Engineering)

It's hard to imagine our everyday lives without them - the innovative achievements of engineers in the most diverse areas of our lives. Working closely with industry, they research and develop innovative processes and test new materials at the university. During the Technology Week, you will gain an insight into the research areas of our scientists and work on a project to produce your own biodiesel for motor vehicles from rapeseed oil.

BioNanoTec week: 28 July - 1 August 2025

Study programme: Applied Natural Science

The technical programme consists of experiments offered at institutes of physics and biosciences during the student university. During the BioNanoTec week, you will experience the possibilities of modern electronics and biotechnology at first hand in the laboratories of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg at the Faculty of Chemistry, Physics and Biosciences.

You will get to know microorganisms as small production plants for interesting molecules and use biomolecules to extract strategic elements such as rare earths. These are used in pure form in today's electronics. You will produce and measure your own small test chip in a modern clean room laboratory. You will delve into the secrets of electrons and light waves, i.e. you will be guided from small light experiments (light decomposition, laser diffraction and holography) to the construction of a laser spectrometer. In contact with the scientists, you will directly experience what it means to work together in interdisciplinary research teams. During these days, we will cover everything from biotechnological applications to microelectronic components.

During the student university, there will be a barbecue evening where participants will have the opportunity to chat informally with students, doctoral students and staff, ask questions and find out more.

Computer Science Days: 04/08 - 07/08/2025

Courses of study: Applied Computer Science, Robotics

Robots have become an integral part of our daily lives. In various forms, they assist with daily tasks and, depending on the area of application, carry out predefined motion sequences or take on partial tasks completely independently. During Computer Science Week, you will be given an overview of the history and current developments in this field. You can also get a taste of controlling and navigating travelling robots in small research-related projects. Other highlights of the week include the presentation of our new mining robots and an abduction into the virtual world.
