Virtual Private Network (VPN) connects computers or entire networks virtually to the campus network. This gives the connected computers access to the university intranet.

A VPN connection is necessary to use many of our IT services. These include software licenses, access to the home directory, and remote desktop connection with an application server.

Customer benefits

VPN virtually connects computers or entire networks to the campus network via an insecure network. This enables access to the intranet (internal university area).

A second important aspect of a VPN connection is the encrypted data transmission via the intermediate "insecure" Internet or radio network.

A VPN connection is always established between a VPN client (installed on your PC) and a VPN server (at the URZ). From the VPN server into the inner network, there is again an unencrypted data traffic.
