Innovative Materials and Technologies
Materials are the foundation for a highly industrialized country like Germany in the heart of Europe. Only through the further or new development of materials can industrial progress as we know it be secured. Whether new and huge wind turbines, future quantum processors or the foundation of a single-family house, everything starts with materials!
At the seven institutes of our faculty, scientists and students research hand in hand to develop innovative materials of the future. However, the focus is not only on the material as such - all process technologies from production, processing, testing to recycling must also be (further) developed and mastered. Whether materials for new high-performance processors, super-light materials for aircraft, high-strength steels, alloys with shape memory effect or hip joints - the products of tomorrow must be lighter, more cost-effective, more ecological and more intelligent! The courses of study based at our faculty offer a combination of materials science and materials technology that is unique in Germany, the latter with a focus on manufacturing processes of metallic materials. In addition to lectures, students also get their first practical experience through numerous internships in some of the largest, most modern and traditional laboratories and pilot plants in Europe.
Whether in research or in industry - Freiberg graduates are respected and sought after worldwide.
