Entry requirements for a Master’s degree programme taught in German

Most Master’s courses of study at TU Bergakademie Freiberg are so-called consecutive courses of study, which means they build on the corresponding Bachelor’s course of study at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. You can find details of the content of the Bachelor’s degree courses of study in the study and examination regulations and in the module manual for the respective course of study.

To obtain admission to German-language Master’s programmes, you must have a sufficient command of German. The following regulations apply:

  • To be admitted to a degree programme taught in German, the certificate “German Language Examination for University Admission – DSH-2” or an equivalent language certificate (see below) is required. A DSH-1 grade in the DSH examination does not permit enrolment on a degree programme.
  • At the time of application, applicants must provide evidence of German language proficiency at level B1 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
  • You can attend intensive German courses at levels B2 and C1 at the International University Centre of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg . At the end of the C1 intensive German course, you can sit the German Language Examination for University Admission on site and obtain the DSH-2 certificate.
  • Alternatives to the DSH certificate: You do not need to sit the German Language Examination for University Admission if you hold one of the following language certificates or qualifications:

    • German Language Diploma of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs – Level II (DSD II)
    • Goethe Certificate C2: Advanced German Language Diploma (Goethe-Institut)
    • Test German as a Foreign Language (Test DaF) at level 4 in all four sections
    • telc C1 University with results of ‘very good’, ‘good’ or ‘satisfactory’

All Bachelor’s and Diplom courses of study, as well as numerous Master’s courses of study at TUBAF, are taught in German. Individual courses within German-language courses of study are taught in English. Furthermore, certain specialist literature is only available in English. For this reason, all students on German-language courses of study are advised to achieve a B2 level of English or higher.
