Shibboleth is an application system for authentication and authorization of various applications such as the e-learning service 'Opal' or the web mail application 'Horde' . If you want to use a web application protected with Shibboleth, you will be temporarily redirected to us (the so-called Identity Provider, IdP) by the operator of this application (the so-called Service Provider, SP). On a login service located at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, you log in with your central login data, i.e. your login data remains physically on servers of the TU Freiberg and is not transmitted to the service provider. Afterwards you will be automatically redirected back to the Shibboleth protected application of the service provider. Based on the login data, the service provider can now decide whether to grant you access to the requested web application.
