Certificates are used on the Internet to encrypt and decrypt data and to create or verify digital signatures.

The TU Bergakademie Freiberg is part of the GÉANT framework agreement and uses the Certificate Authority (CA) offered through it as a certification authority.

Important information:

  • We are currently rebuilding our website. Please understand that not all of the content linked here is yet available on the new website. Some of the pages linked here still point to the old website (only accessible within the university). If you have any questions, please contact our IT Service Desk or the responsible contact person.
  • The contract between Sectigo and GÉANT has been cancelled and the provision of services will be discontinued as of 10 January 2025. Please check whether you manage server and/or user certificates (e.g. S/MIME) that you have not renewed recently. It is advisable to renew these certificates as soon as possible. Current information on the new service provider can be found on the DFN overview page "Current situation DFN-PKI and TCS".

Customer benefits

Employees and students of TU Bergakademie Freiberg can hereby obtain certificates. The certificate holder is responsible for the security of their private key! This must be protected against theft, misuse and loss.

Notes on changing the issuer:

  • It is no longer necessary to appear in person at a registration centre.
  • All certificates certified by the former issuer remain valid until their expiry date. However, server certificates can no longer be renewed.
  • If you use a certificate chain, you must replace it.
