The University Library cordially invites you to a special open-air listening evening dedicated to one of the most pressing climate issues: methane.

Learn more about the complex interrelationships and surprising perspectives surrounding this often underestimated greenhouse gas.

We welcome Prof. Rüdiger Schwarze and Hannes Potts from the Institute of Mechanics and Fluid Dynamics at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

Dive into the world of methane and join us in the discussion!

We present two fascinating audio pieces that shed light on the topic of methane from different perspectives:

Methane - The Invisible Danger

(Author Andrea Rehmsmeier)

Methane is many times more harmful to the climate than carbon dioxide, and its concentration in the atmosphere is rising.
While researchers are still feverishly searching for the causes of this, Brussels is negotiating the first EU methane regulation.
This documentary by Andrea Rehmsmeier delves deep into the scientific research and sheds light on the political efforts to get methane emissions under control.
An exciting insight into the current challenges and possible solutions.

The Parliament of Things - Cows as Climate Saviours?

(Author Barbara Eisenmann)

The chamber music hall at Deutschlandfunk becomes the "Parliament of Things".
The cows are invited. They vehemently defend themselves against their reputation as climate killers. Because actually, if they were allowed to, they would be climate saviours. We will be talking about the diverse roles of cows as migratory grazers, soil improvers, carbon sink helpers, biodiversity agents, landscape gardeners and much more.
Experience a humorous and insightful recording of a live performance that challenges common preconceptions and opens up new perspectives on the role of ruminants in the ecosystem.
