Project description

Since 14 August 2017, the University Library has been actively involved in the research and digitisation project "NUMiD - Minting History / Preserving Values" to establish a Digital Coin Cabinet for Germany.

The holdings of the numismatic collection of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg will be digitised and integrated into the portal in the course of next year. The hardware and software required for this will be made available via the project.

On Degree of this project, the first of the almost 40 university collections of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg will not only be digitised, but will also be accessible worldwide via a specialist network.

Challenge

  • Overcoming the limited added value of isolated data solutions
  • Integrating the local collection into the global research landscape

Goal

  • Digital Coin Cabinet
  • Common presentation of university collections in Germany

Project description

In the context of a SMWK tender, Freiberg University Library, together with BPS Bildungsportal Sachsen GmbH, would like to enrich OPAL objects with additional metadata and make them available to external systems via interfaces to be implemented. The focus here is on OER materials.

LMS OPAL currently exists independently of the university's central knowledge and information portal, the library catalogue. OPAL already stores relevant content for science and teaching, but especially with the perspective strengthening of OER content, which currently does not appear in the university library catalogue.

Challenges

  • Heterogeneity of OPAL materials
  • Automatic enrichment with metadata
  • Data management

Goal

  • Opening up OPAL for external research systems and repositories
  • Enrichment of OPALelements with metadata
  • Increasing the hit quality of searches
  • Increasing the visibility of OER
  • Consolidating the library catalogue as a central knowledge entry point
