Funding acknowledgements characterise scientific publications that were made possible by third-party funding or were produced as part of third-party funded projects. They document the eligibility of the research on which the publication is based and at the same time express gratitude for the funding. They are now often obligatory and standardised funding information and part of the bibliographic metadata of a publication. This means that this information can also be analysed in bibliographic databases such as Scopus.
In order for publications and funding to be correctly assigned, clear affiliation information must always be available in addition to the funding acknowledgements. There are recommendations for members of TU Bergakademie Freiberg in the Publication Guidelines.
Regulations of the DFG
The Funding Guidelines of the DFG regulate the insertion of funding acknowledgements; the respective project participants themselves are responsible for inserting them in publications. A reference to DFG funding should be included in the following form:
- "Funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) - Project number(s)"
In foreign-language publications, the reference should be in English:
- "funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) - project number(s)"
The project number can be found in the approval letter or in the DFG project database GEPRIS. If you cannot find it, please contact

In addition, the DFG published its own information page on the topic Funding Acknowledgements in summer 2025, where funding recipients can find more detailed information.
