Autoclaves are indispensable devices in research and industry when it comes to the safe sterilisation or controlled pressure digestion of materials. They work with saturated water vapour or other media under high pressure and temperature to reliably kill even resistant microorganisms or to digest samples for analytical procedures. In addition to classic applications in the sterilisation of laboratory utensils and biological samples, they are also used in chemistry, materials research and food technology, where reproducible conditions are crucial.
The institute has a total of eight pressurised containers from Berghof for an autoclave, including two large and six small versions. These special containers are designed for use at temperatures of up to 250 °C and a pressure of 200 bar for a period of up to 72 hours. The small containers offer a volume of up to 50 ml, while the large ones can hold up to 420 ml. A special feature is the user-friendly closure system, which allows the reactor to be opened and closed quickly and safely in just a few simple steps. This allows demanding experiments to be carried out efficiently and reliably.
