A thermostat is used to maintain the temperature in a room, an appliance or a technical system at a desired value. It works according to the principle of temperature control: a built-in sensor continuously measures the current temperature and compares it with the set target value. If the actual temperature deviates from the setpoint, the thermostat automatically activates a heating element or a cooling device to adjust the temperature accordingly. As soon as the desired temperature is reached, the appliance switches itself off again. The Institute has various thermostats, which are presented below:
LAUDA
The institute has several thermostats from the company LAUDA. The RE 420 S in particular is presented below.
The RE 420 S is a powerful cooling/heating thermostat from the ECO SILVER series, designed for precise heating and cooling of liquids in laboratory applications. As a circulation thermostat, it is suitable both for internal operation in the temperature control bath and for external temperature control of connected systems. The thermostat has a maximum bath volume of 4 litres and can cool liquids down to temperatures as low as -20 °C.
The temperature is controlled via an integrated Pt100 temperature sensor with high accuracy. The clear monochrome LCD display and the easy-to-use softkey control panel allow all central functions, such as the temperature setpoint, overtemperature switch-off point, pump output and operating limits, to be conveniently set. The circulation pump integrated in the device can be set to six delivery stages and supports both internal bath circulation and external operation with consumers via a pump connection set.
The RE 420 S has a standard refrigeration unit with a fully hermetically sealed compressor and fan-ventilated finned condenser. Cooling is switched on automatically or manually via the menu.
The modular design allows the addition of various interface modules, such as USB, RS232/485, analogue modules or a Pt100/LiBus module for external temperature sensors. This allows the thermostat to be conveniently connected to higher-level control systems or PCs and operated with the Wintherm Plus software, for example. In addition, the RE 420 S supports programme-controlled temperature management to enable automatic temperature cycles for complex applications.
Thanks to its robust design, high control accuracy and versatile connection and control options, the LAUDA RE 420 S is a reliable solution for everyday use in research, development and quality assurance.

JULABO
The F25-HE from JULABO is a powerful refrigerated circulator that can be used flexibly for heating and cooling liquids. It works with a filling volume of 4.5 litres in a temperature range from -28 °C to +200 °C, which can be set with an accuracy of 0.01 °C and is maintained with a stability of ± 0.01 °C. This stability is ensured by temperature control using Intelligent Cascade Control technology from JULABO. The refrigeration unit works with environmentally friendly R134a refrigerant, is air-cooled and is operated with Active Cooling Control technology, which saves energy and ensures constant cooling capacity across the entire temperature range.
The integrated circulation pump is electronically adjustable in terms of delivery and suction power and enables flow rates of 22-26 l/min, a delivery pressure of 0.4-0.7 bar and a suction pressure of 0.2-0.4 bar.
Control is via a large VFD comfort display in combination with a user-friendly membrane keypad, which can be used to set setpoint and warning values, pump stages, calibration and protective functions. The overtemperature protection can be visibly set on the display. The device also provides an early warning when the liquid level is low.
The thermostat has an integrated programme generator with up to ten programme steps and also supports the optional use of an external Pt100 temperature sensor for internal and external process monitoring.
The JULABO F25-HE is a versatile and precise refrigerated circulator with a wide temperature range, intelligent control technology and powerful pump - ideal for demanding laboratory applications in research and industry.

HUBER
The CC-K6 refrigerated bath circulator from Huber is a powerful device for precise temperature control in laboratory applications. With a bath volume of 4.5 litres and automatic adjustment of the cooling capacity to reduce energy consumption and waste heat, the CC-K6 is both compact and efficient.
The thermostat offers a wide operating temperature range from -25 to 200 °C and achieves a temperature stability of ±0.02 °C. A powerful pressure and suction pump ensures reliable circulation. The maximum flow rate is 27 l/min at 0.7 bar (pressure pump) and 22 l/min at 0.4 bar (suction pump). The pump speed is adjustable, allowing flexible adaptation to different applications. It also uses a natural refrigerant, which makes it particularly environmentally friendly.
The modern Pilot ONE controller with a 5.7-inch colour touchscreen, which offers user-friendly menu navigation in 13 languages, is available for operation. Additional functions such as a programme generator, 2-point calibration of the control sensor and the connection for an external Pt100 temperature sensor enable individual adjustment and high control accuracy. Safety functions such as overtemperature and low level protection ensure reliable operation.
The device can be easily integrated into external systems via rear connections. The integrated USB and Ethernet connections enable easy connection to a PC or network for further control and monitoring tasks.
Thus, the CC-K6 from Huber offers a reliable, energy-efficient and user-friendly solution for demanding temperature control tasks in laboratories and technology.
