Projects

In a variety of application fields, such as medical diagnostics, environmental analysis or energy technology, the need for new sensor and data acquisition system solutions to combine different data sources is increasing against the backdrop of digital transformation. The HELIOS programme therefore aims to research innovative, highly compact sensor solutions. The aim is to test the possibility of integrating hardware and software sensor concepts on a chip, as well as the use of artificial intelligence methods. By developing concepts for more powerful and more cost-effective sensors, the aim is to enable innovations in existing fields of application on the one hand and to open up new fields of application on the other.

Dr Seyed Mohammad Mahdi Dadfar

My name is Mahdi Dadfar, and I am the group leader of the Nanosensor Group at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Faculty of Materials Science and Technology, within the Institute of Nanoscale and Biobased Materials. I received my Ph.D. in 2019 from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Institute of Nanotechnology (INT). Following my doctoral studies, I completed my first postdoctoral position at the Institute of Physics, Biophysics, RWTH Aachen, in collaboration with the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science. I then continued with a second postdoctoral position at the University of Stuttgart.
My research focuses on surface chemistry, polymer science, sensors, and nanotechnology.

Esra Buğçe Karataş Özkaraca

M. Sc. Esra Buğçe Karataş Özkaraca

I’m Esra Buğçe Karataş Özkaraca. I completed my B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Chemistry in Turkey, and I am currently continuing my Ph.D. studies there as well. In 2024, I joined the Nanosensors group at TUBAF as a research associate. My current work focuses on the microwave-assisted synthesis of quantum dots and their integration into optical sensor systems for detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs). I am currently involved in the HELIOS project (Highly Integrated Electrochemical and Light Optical Sensor Systems).

Research interests: microwave-assisted synthesis, quantum dots, optical sensing, hybrid nanomaterials
