UV-Vis von Avantes

UV/Vis spectrometers (ultraviolet/visible spectrometers) are analytical devices for determining the absorption of light in the ultraviolet and visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum and are therefore used in numerous scientific and industrial fields. By analysing which wavelengths of light are absorbed by a sample, statements can be made about concentrations, chemical compositions or reaction processes. Modern UV/Vis spectrometers combine high optical resolution with fast data acquisition and excellent sensitivity.

The AvaSpec-ULS2048XL-EVO from the manufacturer Avantes is a sophisticated UV/Vis spectrometer that has been specially designed for applications with the highest demands on sensitivity and speed. It is based on a back-illuminated CCD detector with a two-dimensional array and 2048 pixels, each with large monolithic dimensions of 14 × 500 micrometres. This design enables an exceptionally high quantum efficiency, particularly in the UV range (200 - 400 nm) and in the near-infrared range (950 - 1160 nm). The quantum efficiency in the UV range reaches up to 60 %.

An outstanding feature of the device is the integrated electronic shutter, which allows extremely short integration times from 2 microseconds. The sensitivity of the system is 460,000 counts/µW per millisecond of integration time, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 525 : 1. An optional detector converging lens is available for applications that require particularly high sensitivity.

The optical bench of the device is based on a symmetrical Czerny-Turner design with a focal length of 75 mm and is characterised by extremely low stray light components (<0.5 %). Depending on the configuration, the achievable spectral resolution is between 0.09 and 20 nm, making the spectrometer suitable for both high-resolution measurements and broadband analyses.

The AvaSpec therefore combines a variety of modern technologies and optical precision with high speed and flexibility - ideal for demanding spectroscopic applications in the laboratory or in industrial environments.

The SPECORD S10 UV/Vis spectrometer from Zeiss is a powerful simultaneous spectrometer that has been specially developed for demanding applications in the field of quantitative and qualitative analysis. It combines high spectral resolution with excellent photometric precision and is suitable for analysing both liquid and solid samples.

The SPECORD S10 utilises a multi-channel system (MCS) with a diode array consisting of 1024 individual receivers. The device covers a wide wavelength range from 190 to 1017 nm with an accuracy of ±1 nm and is therefore suitable for the UV as well as the visible and near infrared range.

During the measurement, the radiation from the deuterium or halogen lamp is split by a holographic grating with 248 lines/mm and detected by a silicon photodiode array. The spectral bandwidth is 0.8 nm, which results in a practical resolution of 2.4 nm. During a measurement, the measured stray light component is only 0.05 % when certain filters are used. The system achieves a maximum signal-to-noise ratio of 1 : 5000, both in the UV and VIS range. The minimum integration time for a single measurement is 22 to 114 ms, although this depends on the selected resolution and range.

Thanks to its robust design, automatic dark current correction, precise optical alignment and powerful ASPECT software, the SPECORD S10 is a reliable and efficient spectrometer for research and routine analysis in laboratories in a wide range of disciplines.
