The Discover 2.0 from CEM is an advanced microwave reactor designed for demanding applications in organic and inorganic synthesis. With its single-mode microwave chamber holding up to 100 mL and a 900 W magnetron, it provides high energy density, making it ideal for fast, efficient and reproducible reactions under pressure and temperature.
The system is operated using an intuitive software control system with a 10-inch touchscreen, which can be used to programme reactions in a very short time. This makes it possible to develop new reaction protocols and synthesise new molecules and materials in just a few minutes.
The particular strength of the Discover 2.0 lies in its volumetric and direct heating of the reaction mixture using microwave radiation. This type of energy input enables a more even temperature distribution, reduces side reactions and significantly shortens reaction times. This not only leads to an increase in product purity and yield, but also to greater reproducibility and process control, which is particularly advantageous in materials chemistry or with sensitive organometallic compounds.
The temperature is monitored using a high-precision IR sensor that measures the reaction solution directly through glass and Teflon. This allows exact control of the reaction conditions without the use of cost-intensive and sensitive glass fibre sensors.
The system has integrated vent-and-reseal technology for the safe handling of overpressure-related gas developments. This automatically discharges any gases produced to the outside through an exhaust pipe without interrupting the reaction or jeopardising the system.
The variable magnetic stirring technology and accelerated compressed air cooling also ensure reproducible results, especially for exothermic or diffusion-limited reactions. A wide range of reaction vessels from 0.2 mL to 125 mL is available, whereby the pressurised reactions can be carried out in 10 mL, 35 mL and 100 mL vessels.
