The Pulverisette 5.102 planetary bead mill from FRITSCH GmbH is a universal instrument for the rapid grinding of dry and wet samples. It can be used to grind inorganic and organic materials as well as to mix and homogenise emulsions and pastes.

The mill works through a combination of centrifugal force and impact action, in which the grinding bowls rotate both around their own axis and around the centre axis of the mill. This dual rotation generates strong centrifugal forces that throw the grinding beads against the inner walls of the bowls, causing the material to be intensively crushed by friction and impact.

The user can set the speed of the grinder from 60 to 320 rpm using a rotary knob and then specify a grinding time of 2 to 60 minutes on the device. A long grinding time and the right choice of grinding bowls and grinding beads can enable particle sizes of up to 20 µm for dry grinding and up to < 5 µm for wet grinding, with the grinding bowls allowing a maximum volume of 225 ml each.

If you need to use the planetary bead mill, please contact the person responsible for the device.
