The book: Freedom tasks
Journalist and author Marko Martin's speech "Von fortgesetzten deutschen Lebenslügen und Verdrängungen - in Ost und West" on the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall sparked a major debate. On 13 September 2025, the award-winning author published the non-fiction book Freiheitsaufgaben, in which he outlines his idea of responsible and uncomfortable freedom for the first time.
The author questions our understanding of the concept of freedom. Does freedom automatically mean happiness? Or is freedom, according to the German-French social psychologist, writer and philosopher Manés Sperber, not above all "the categorical rejection of despondency"? Couldn't something like happiness arise precisely from this understanding? Marko Martin, influenced by friends of freedom around the world, talks about this like no other.
A rousing appeal against the calls for autocratic incapacitation.
