New concepts for your active break

Many of you spend several hours a day in the library, concentrating on learning, reading and writing - often while sitting down. At the same time, we see time and again that there is a great desire for movement in between. Whether it's somersaults on the green space, short walks on the terrace or even climbing attempts on our façade - the urge to move is clearly visible.

This energy has inspired us and posed the question:
How can we bring more vigour into your everyday library life?

Together with students, we collected initial ideas and also got the University Sports Centre on board.

A creative brainstorming session on 3 March 2026 has already produced numerous suggestions. Among others, the following ideas were discussed:

  • small sports and exercise equipment for use in the library
  • additional equipment and seating options for ergonomic working
  • short exercise programmes or active break formats in cooperation with the university sports centre

Our aim is to create opportunities that are simple and easy to use, create opportunities that fit easily and simply into your study breaks and provide a brief balance.

We are currently still in the ideas and planning phase. As soon as concrete offers or dates have been finalised, we will inform you here on our homepage and via our social media channels.

Do you have any ideas for a break in motion at the UB?
Then please write to us - we look forward to your suggestions and perspectives.

Stay tuned - we'll keep you up to date!
