Warm greetings at the turn of the year

After my turbulent first year in Freiberg, which culminated in the presentation of the Saxon Library Award, I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year on behalf of the entire management team.

The period between Christmas and New Year is a special time of transition, a time to take a deep breath and settle in, with opportunities to look back and look ahead.
My thoughts are especially with the foreign members of our university who are staying alone in Freiberg because their families live too far away.

The university has put together various offers:

  • (How) do you celebrate Christmas? – December 22, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. (Tee-Ei, Untermarkt 5)
  • Christmas party – December 26, 2025, from 10:00 p.m. (Alte Mensa, Petersstraße 5)

Yours, Julia Meyer, Director of the University Library

Auch abseits der Arbeit voller Einsatz – danke an Frau Berndt vom Sicherheitspersonal für die jährliche Weihnachtsdeko. | Full commitment even outside of work – thanks to Ms. Berndt from security for the annual Christmas decorations.

Thanks!

There is much more to a smooth day at the library than meets the eye. In addition to the library staff with their diverse tasks, there are also people who create the framework for this:

Our security staff ensure security, cleaning guarantees the cleanliness of our premises and building services ensure smooth operation - from lighting and electricity to the smallest repairs.

Without this work, many things would not have run so smoothly this year.

That is why we would like to take this opportunity to say thank you: for reliability, friendliness, commitment, quick help and everything that happens in the background.

Our opening hours over Christmas & New Year

What a year

2025 was a year full of diverse events, new formats and joint projects for our library.

Many people have contributed to making so much possible and to our continued growth as a library - in terms of services, ideas and experiences.

We are not simply closing the year with this review - we are taking the good energy with us and looking forward to everything that awaits us in the coming year.

Adventskalender

Open, read, feel good: Our literary Advent magic.

To kick off the Advent season, we have selected 24 winter and Christmas-themed books and hidden them in some of our loading lockers.

The numbered doors form a small Advent calendar where a new title can be discovered every day. This way, there is always a little reason to pop in during the pre-Christmas period and take a portion of reading mood with you.
