We supply you with media (books, copies of articles or data carriers) via interlibrary loan from external libraries if the desired medium is not available in Freiberg.
Please note that by sending the interlibrary loan request you enter into a legally binding obligation to pay the interlibrary loan fee (EUR 1.50) and that you may not use the copies ordered for commercial purposes.

We also lend our holdings or copies thereof to foreign libraries as part of our interlibrary loan programme.

Who can order?
All users who have a valid library card from Freiberg University Library.
What can be ordered?
You can order media and articles from journals that are demonstrably not available in the University Library.
Please note that in the case of multi-volume works, one order must be placed per volume.
Titles published abroad that are not listed in Germany can be ordered via international interlibrary loan (free entry form).
Excluded from the order are:
- E-books
- Books and journals that are available at Freiberg University Library and Freiberg City Library - even if they are on loan!
- Books that are more than 100 years old and particularly valuable works. Copies are usually possible.
- Books that are available in bookshops at a lower price (price limit: 10 euros)
- Complete volumes of journals, newspapers
- Loose-leaf editions
- State examinations, theses and dissertations
- Patents, standards
- Works of unusual format
How much does an interlibrary loan cost and what is the delivery time?
Costs
- Processing fee per order: 1.50 euros
- Higher fees may apply for international interlibrary loans (ILV), depending on the supplying library and the shipping costs. These orders will only be initiated after consultation with you.
- Exceptional costs, e.g. express or value shipments as well as any additional costs incurred by the delivery library, which must be borne by the customer, must always be expected.
Important note:
The fee of 1.50 euros per order must also be paid if the Freiberg University Library is found to be in possession of the item when processing the interlibrary loan order or if the order is unsuccessful.
Delivery time:
- approx. 1 - 4 weeks
- For orders from abroad, a longer delivery time may have to be expected
Where can I order?
If you have not found any suitable hits in our catalogue, you can place an interlibrary loan order for a fee. To do this, please use the cross-network interlibrary loan portal.
If the search in the interlibrary loan portal is also unsuccessful, you can place the order using the free input form in the portal. You will find this below the order form under Search options.
To submit an interlibrary loan request, you need an active user account and your user number and password.
If the literature you are looking for is not available in any library in the Federal Republic of Germany, you can use the International Interlibrary Loan (ILV) service. In this case, please contact the "Interlibrary Loan and Delivery Services" team at Freiberg University Library.
How will you be notified?
As soon as we have received your interlibrary loan request, you will be notified by email or post (subject to a charge) where and for how long the item will be available for you.
You can borrow or view the media provided during service hours at the Lending / Information on the 1st floor. Item orders will be sent to you electronically by email.
What are the terms of use?
The terms of use (loan period, renewal, usage restrictions, etc.) are always based on the specifications of the supplying libraries. As a rule, the loan period is 4 weeks.
Applications to extend the loan period are made exclusively via the "Interlibrary Loan and Delivery Services" team before the loan period expires and are subject to reservation.
Fees must be paid for late returns in accordance with the "University Fees and Charges Regulations of TU Bergakademie Freiberg"
