Starting in 2027, the funding model for publication costs will change for 13 journals that were previously hybrid. With the transition to Gold Open Access, these journals will be subject to the 20% discount option.
What does this mean for authors?
- An overview of all Flip journals for 2027, including the respective cut-off dates, can be found here: Journal List and Cut-off Dates 2027.
- The respective transition date determines whether an article is classified under the hybrid or Gold model—not the submission date.
What is the transition date?
The transition date is the publisher’s internal transition date and is decisive for an article’s classification. This date marks the transition of a journal’s editorial system and typically occurs several months before the official flip date. The actual flip always takes place on January 1 of the respective calendar year. All articles accepted for publication on or after the respective transition date are treated as Gold Open Access articles—regardless of when they were submitted.
