Lecture: Attack and Defence
Lecture series: The principles and history of Freemasonry!
Attack and defence
The contemporary debate within German Freemasonry regarding Ludendorff’s polemical treatise.
Many have heard of Erich Ludendorff’s treatise ‘The Destruction of Freemasonry through the Revelation of its Secrets’. Very few are familiar with its contents, and even fewer are likely to be aware of the reactions of the German lodges to this attack. The lecture will examine the contemporary context of media distribution in order to outline the nature of the media exchanges of that time.
It will then provide an introduction to Ludendorff’s polemic and outline the various reactions of the lodges. Finally, the topic will be examined from a contemporary perspective, with an attempt to highlight any possible parallels.
The lecture is essayistic in nature and will be supported by a few slides.
Speaker: Prof. Dr Michael Reiche
