What’s it all about?
Podcasts have become a very popular way of delivering content. It feels as though there is now at least one podcast for every niche, and the trend is upwards. The academic world has also discovered this popular method of audio-based, decentralised knowledge transfer and is using it to bring fundamentally challenging topics from the depths of individual disciplines to the public’s attention.
Podcasts are topic-centred episodes of varying lengths and formats, though they are primarily text-heavy and feature a presenter and one or, at most, two guests. They can act as magnifying glasses, helping to bring individual topics into focus and explain them with the support of experts.
Podcasts are now also used as a format for assessed work. Our learning management system, OPAL, offers the option to upload audio files, thereby enabling podcasts to be integrated into teaching.
