If you would like to have a bachelor's thesis, diploma thesis, master's thesis, or other documentation, reports, etc. printed and/or bound, we recommend booking an appointment with us as soon as possible using the appointment booking tool.

Procedure

Select your desired date for the production of your thesis/dissertation as soon as possible using our booking tool:
Online booking

We will confirm your request in a reply email or clarify any organizational difficulties.

If you are unable to keep your appointment at short notice and wish to cancel or reschedule, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can make the appointment available to others.
IMPORTANT: Due to staffing constraints, we are unfortunately unable to process more than two appointments per day. If you are unable to find an available slot during your desired time period, we can bind your books for you if you bring the printed documents to us. Equipment is available for this purpose in the university library, for example: Printing in the library

Create your print file.
When exporting your document as a PDF, a variety of technical issues may arise that could reduce the quality of your print. We recommend that you review the points below when preparing your print production.

Next, log in to our web-to-print platform using your central university login details. Upload the finished PDF of your document here and configure your order without obligation. Please complete this step by 7 a.m. on the day of your appointment at the latest.
Configuration

ATTENTION: Before submitting your order, you will be asked to enter your “cost center number” and “institute/department.” Please enter ‘00000’ and “Student” here.

Come to the media center at the agreed time. You can check your printout and make any minor adjustments. We will then discuss other details, such as attaching the data carrier for your digital submission.

Option 1:
Pick up your finished order from us at an agreed time on the same day or later. Payment (preferably by EC/credit card) is also made at this time. We can then forward your copies to the student office if they are to be submitted there. Of course, you can also submit them in person.

Option 2:
We will process the payment directly after you have checked the print and all other details have been clarified. We will forward your bound copies directly to the student office upon completion, so that the entire process can be conveniently completed in one appointment.

In both cases, please ensure that your affidavits are signed and that the digital submission has been clarified before we forward your copies, if desired.

Notes and Recommendations for your Print Files

When exporting your document to PDF format, reference marks may not be transferred to the directories. Instead of the page number, an error message appears, such as “Error: Reference source not found.”
ATTENTION: This error message is often also transferred to the Word file after the file is exported.

Microsoft Office works in RGB color mode, which is only intended for screen display.
Printing processes use the CMYK color space, i.e., the printed image is composed of four colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, black). As a result, the RGB colors defined in your document are converted during the rasterization process and appear significantly different on paper than you might expect. We therefore recommend that you avoid using extremely bright colors in the first place. For physical reasons, the printing process and paper as a medium can reproduce fewer colors than a self-illuminating display device such as a PC screen.
Please also ensure that grayscale image files are actually saved as such and no longer contain any RGB information.

When exporting your document to PDF, the vector and pixel images used are compressed. Set the highest possible resolution to ensure that the print image appears as clear as possible and is not blurred. Particularly in diagrams or other line drawings, you should check whether compression artifacts appear around the lines after exporting to PDF (see image). These appear in the print image as blurred, unclean areas. However, these artifacts can also be clearly visible in all other images (see image).

This problem occurs in PDFs that have been exported from LaTeX. Before uploading your file, please check carefully that your text and directories are fully within the margins.

To ensure the best readability of the bound document, we require and recommend that the inner margin be set to at least 20 mm. The outer margins should not be less than 10 mm, both for technical printing reasons and for aesthetic reasons.

Chapter headings and subheadings are often defined in color in MS Word templates. We advise against this, as the relevant text pages of your document will then be calculated as color pages, thereby increasing your production costs. It is preferable to set headings to black or grayscale.

When using the TUBAF logo in your document, please ensure that it is the current version and is displayed in high resolution. Experience has shown that document templates with the 2013-2023 logo or even the previous one are still in circulation.

Please ensure that your document contains a declaration of authorship (various designations) if required. If this page is missing, your document will not be accepted for submission.

If you want your document printed on both sides, it is advisable to change the margins and positions of the page numbers on the front and back, or to set the left and right margins to the same size and place the page numbers in the center. You should also make sure that chapters begin on the front of a page. Insert blank pages where necessary.

Specify the highest possible image resolution in the export settings. However, please also ensure that the file size is reasonable, because the larger the file, the longer the rasterization step takes. This can lead to long waiting times or even processing interruptions, for example, in the case of highly complex vector images.

Make sure that your document is in the standard DIN A4 format – 210 x 297 mm.
Occasionally, document templates are created in US Letter format – 8.5 x 11 inches or 215.9 x 279.4 mm – which we do not process.

If your document contains oversized pages (A3 or larger), you can specify those when uploading the file. Depending on the total number of pages, you will need to consider how many oversized pages per book are practical, as folded pages can significantly increase the thickness of the book. If necessary, we will discuss this issue with you in person and find a solution.

The maximum number of sheets per binding depends on the type of binding:
Hardcover: 280 sheets
Softcover: 300 sheets
Ring binding: 500 sheets
Saddle stitching: 50 sheets
