On 19–20 September 2025, the Professorship of Additive Manufacturing at the Institute for Machine Elements, Engineering Design and Manufacturing, within the Faculty of Mechanical, Process and Energy Engineering of TU Bergakademie Freiberg participated in the GO! 2025 event in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. The participation was part of the European Capital of Culture 2025 program.
Under the leadership of Prof. Henning Zeidler, the team — Dipl.-Ing. (BA) Diana Klemm, Dr. Bahar Gharehpapagh, and M.Sc. Luwen Zhang — presented their research on sustainable, bio-based, and recyclable materials for additive manufacturing. Several innovative material systems of the Professorship were showcased, highlighting their potential for resource-efficient and environmentally friendly production.
Visitors observed a live Material Extrusion (MEX) demonstration using wood-based paste, and a video presentation provided insights into the Professorship’s work on Binder Jetting (BJT). Interactive BJT demonstrators, including the popular “Brains,” allowed visitors to remove residual powder themselves, offering a hands-on and engaging experience.
A highlight of the event was a visit from Samo Turel, Mayor of Nova Gorica. Over 1,000 attendees explored how advanced technologies, sustainable materials, and traditional craftsmanship intersect. The strong interest from both children and adults underscored the broad appeal of additive manufacturing and sustainability.
The event offered a valuable platform for dialogue and exchange with makers, researchers, and industry representatives from across Europe, further strengthening the collaboration between Nova Gorica and TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
The Professorship extends its sincere thanks to Mojca Stubelj Ars and the GO! 2025 Nova Gorica · Gorizia team for the kind invitation, and to Maker e.V. and Katrin Hoffmann for their excellent support.
