On 16 June 2026, the year of the IUZ’s 25th anniversary, the International University Centre took part in the University Sports Olympics for the first time. Not only did the IUZ field its own team, but it also introduced a new event: the ‘IUZ Cricket Challenge’.
The six-strong IUZ team consisted of staff members, students, a visiting researcher from Kenya and a guest and supporter of the IUZ. It was a brilliant team that not only gave it their all, but also had a lot of fun doing so.
“I was really impressed by the creativity and the fun at the twelve very different stations. “As only three or four competitors could take part at most stations, we had to decide who was best suited to which challenge. There was something for every team member,” says team captain Torsten Mayer.
The “IUZ Cricket Challenge” was led by Pakistani students from TUBAF.
Teaching the rules for throwing and hitting the ball in such a short space of time was also a challenge for the stand supervisors. Nevertheless, all the teams mastered the task with flying colours, tried something new and learnt a lot.
Although this was the IUZ’s first time taking part in the University Sports Olympics, it certainly won’t be the last!
