Eight teams, comprising a total of 80 players from Freiberg, Chemnitz, Dresden and Cottbus, competed in the tournament. After a full day of exciting and closely contested matches, BTU Blitz from Cottbus emerged as the tournament winners, defeating The Dark Lords from Dresden in the final.

Individual performances were also recognised during the tournament. Zeeshan Zia from The Rangbaaz team was named Best Batsman, scoring a total of 102 runs in four innings. Abdur Rehman Huzaifa from The Dark Lords of Dresden was named Best Bowler, taking eight wickets in five innings.

To ensure that the entire tournament could be completed in a single day, the organisers chose a shortened five-over format. Unlike traditional cricket matches, which can last several hours in 20- or 50-over formats, the five-over format provided fast-paced matches and allowed all eight teams to participate in a compact one-day tournament.

The event was not only about competition. With sunny weather providing ideal conditions, families and children also attended the tournament and enjoyed watching the matches, creating a lively atmosphere around the cricket field.

Prof. Jutta Emes, Rector of TU Bergakademie Freiberg, attended the event and expressed her appreciation to the organisers for creating a much-needed opportunity for international students to come together through sport: “It is wonderful to see what you are doing here. [...] It is a great honour that you are here and doing these sports together. I am very impressed to see so many people taking part in this event”, Prof. Emes said.

Later in the afternoon, Mr David Ihle, Freiberg City Council, Head of Department for Building and Site Management, attended the event. He presented certificates and prizes to the participating teams and congratulated the players and organisers on the successful tournament.

Yvonne Bilz from Sächsischer Cricket Verband e.V. also attended the event and appreciated the organisers for successfully organising the tournament.

Cricket is the second most followed sport in the world and has a particularly strong following among students from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Afghanistan, as well as many other countries in Europe, including England. For international students living and studying in Germany, opportunities to participate in familiar sporting activities can provide an important way to stay active, build social connections and remain engaged with their cultural interests.

The organisers believe that events such as the Summer Tap Ball Cricket Tournament are particularly valuable for the international student community. Such occasions provide a natural platform for intercultural exchange and integration, bringing students from different backgrounds together through a shared interest in sport.

The Pakistani Students Association Freiberg hopes that the tournament will become a regular sporting event in Freiberg.
