Application Procedure

The application process starts off with your nomination by the responsible Erasmus coordinator of your home university. All nominations are to be sent by your International Office to marcus [dot] dietrich [at] tu-freiberg [dot] de (Marcus Dietrich) (Mr.). Once you have been nominated, you will get an e-mail from us in return, including further viable information on how to apply. The message also includes a link that takes you straight to our application portal – Mobility Online.

TUBAF uses “Mobility Online” (MO) as a reliable tool to record your entire Erasmus stay, i.e. from the time you apply until the end of your stay abroad. Once you have received our intrductory message by e-mail (i.e. after we have received your official nomination), please click on the button “Apply now” in the message. This will take you directly to our application portal.

At first, please enter your complete data in the form to register for the tool. You will receive an automatic generated mail (please also check your junk folder) with a confirmation link to open up your user account. Please login to your account and follow the steps to your successful application and start with the completion of your personal data (first step).

If you still have any questions whatsoever, don't hesitate to marcus [dot] dietrich [at] tu-freiberg [dot] de (contact us)!

The Learning Agreement is an important document that outlines the study program you plan to pursue during your Erasmus exchange at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. It serves as a contract between you, your home institution, and the host institution (TU Bergakademie Freiberg), ensuring that the courses you take abroad will be recognized and credited toward your degree.

While the specific process may vary slightly between institutions, here's some general information about the Learning Agreement and how it is typically created online:

  • Preparing the Agreement: The first step is to consult with your academic advisor or Erasmus coordinator at your home institution to discuss your study goals and select the appropriate courses. You will need to consider your academic requirements, any language prerequisites, and the compatibility of the courses offered at TU Bergakademie Freiberg with your home institution's curriculum.
  • Online Platform to create your Learning Agreement: Many universities utilize online platforms or systems to create and manage the Learning Agreement. These platforms streamline the process, making it easier to select courses, review their descriptions, and communicate with your home and host institutions. Your international office or Erasmus+ coordinator will give you guidance in this process.
  • Course Selection: Once you have access to your online platform to create your LA, you may use the following possibilities to select courses at TUBAF:

    • Browse  the available courses at TU Bergakademie Freiberg using our module handbooks (all modules from our English language programs; In our handbooks, pay attention to the course titles, descriptions, credit values, and any prerequisites or
    • Browse the pages of our study programs (apply filter: "Extended Options" > Course Language > select "English" [unless you wish to choose German language programs]) or
    • Use the Online Course Catalogue of TU Bergakademie Freiberg (published in short-term before the start of each semester, i.e. at the time of your application, you only have access to the course catalogues of the former summer or winter semester. Please note that the course catalogue is only available in German at the moment) or
    • Reach out to your Erasmus+ coordinator to discuss possibilities.

      IMPORTANT:

    • Your home university and TUBAF have an ERASMUS+ agreement on a specific field of study. Please choose the majority of courses from the field of study for which the agreement is valid (please ask your ERASMUS+ coordinators).
    • Make sure to choose courses that align with your academic goals and fulfill the requirements set by your home institution.
    • The total amount of modules from fields of study other than your own must not exceed 10 ECTS credit points (e.g. if you are a Mechanical Engineering student and you intend to participate in lectures of Business Administration/Management).

  • Completing the Agreement: Using the online platform, you will enter the course details, such as the course codes, titles, credit values, and the respective academic departments. You may need to indicate the semester or period in which you plan to take each course. Your academic advisor or Erasmus coordinator will review and approve the Learning Agreement before it is finalized. Please note that you need to sign the Learning Agreement, too.
  • Signatures and Deadlines: Once the Learning Agreement is completed online, it will typically require electronic signatures from you, your home institution coordinator, and the coordinator (Erasmus Representative) at TUBAF. Make sure to adhere to the deadlines provided by your home institution, as they may have specific timelines for submitting the agreement.
  • Changes to the Agreement: It's important to note that the Learning Agreement is not set in stone and can be modified if necessary. If you encounter any changes in your course availability or if adjustments are needed after your arrival at TUBAF, you must follow the procedures set by your home institution and obtain the required approvals.

Remember, the Learning Agreement is a crucial document to ensure a smooth academic experience during your Erasmus exchange. Take the time to carefully select your courses, seek advice when needed (contact your Erasmus coordinator at your home university or the international office at TUBAF), and maintain open communication with both your home and host institution.

When you are enrolled at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, you may attend free German courses offered by the International Centre during the respective semester.

Insurances

Health insurance is a mandatory requirement for all individuals residing in Germany, including Erasmus students as it ensures access to quality healthcare services and covers medical expenses during your stay. Furthermore, having valid health insurance is often a prerequisite for obtaining a student visa or residence permit in Germany, emphasizing its importance for Erasmus students' from countries without EHIC (European Health Insurance Card).

Without proper health insurance coverage, Erasmus students may be liable for high medical costs, which can significantly impact their finances and potentially disrupt their academic journey. Therefore, it is crucial for you to carefully consider your health insurance options, whether it is through a private insurance provider or a statutory health insurance scheme, to ensure compliance with German regulations and protect your well-being.

TUBAF requires proof of health insurance as part of the enrollment process to ensure that students have adequate coverage during their studies. The International Office can assist Erasmus students in understanding the necessary steps for obtaining health insurance coverage.

A) If you have an EHIC card, please send an email to ehic [at] tk [dot] de (ehic[at]tk[dot]de) including the following data (this step is necessary for the enrolment procedure):

  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Email
  • Copy of passport, copy of the letter of admission
  • Name of the university
  • Copy of your EHIC card

B) If you are privately insured, our admission office requires an exemption from compulsory insurance for the enrolment. In this case, please follow the link below:

We recommend that you take out liability insurance that is valid in Germany. If you cause damage, the insurance company will usually pay for it.

The TU Bergakademie Freiberg does not provide liability insurance for its members. You must therefore take out private insurance, if you are interested.

If you already have private liability insurance in your home country, you can check with your insurance company whether your insurance is valid in Germany.

Further in-depth information is available on our website "Health Insurance".

As an enrolled student at TUBAF you are insured against accidents by the "Unfallkasse Sachsen". You are covered if the accident occurs in connection with your studies and on your way to or from the university campus. Additional insurance coverage is available from private insurance companies.
