The grinding system at the institute consists of a combination of the RotoForce-4 and the Planopol-V, both of which were purchased from Struers. While the RotoForce-4 is the sample holder for the automatic grinding and polishing of samples, the Planopol-V serves as the matching grinding machine.

The Planopol-V can be used to process various metallographic, ceramic and mineralogical samples on grinding or polishing discs with a diameter of up to 300 mm. The DC motor enables speeds of up to 800 rpm, while its servo control keeps the speed constant even under load. The flexible jet pipe with needle valve also ensures precise adjustment of the water flow.  

Several samples with a diameter of up to 40 mm can be attached to the RotoForce-4. The control panel can be used to set a rotation speed of up to 150 rpm, which runs either with or against the rotational direction of the Planopol-V. In addition, the pressure force can be set in the range from 5 N to 50 N as well as the preparation time, after which both devices are switched off.
