The Foundry Institute at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg is one of Europe’s leading institutes in the field of foundry engineering.
The Foundry Institute includes a pilot plant which combines virtually all the technological stages of cast component production, including comprehensive analysis and materials testing, thereby providing ideal conditions for teaching and research.
Current research priorities include, for example:
- Development of an improved steel alloy for
construction machinery components subject to wear - Development of a filtration concept for aluminium
scrap for reuse - Optimisation of the simulation model for
core shooting processes - CO₂-free melting of non-ferrous metals
- Regeneration of various moulding material systems
When implementing new technologies and processes, the Foundry Institute at TU Bergakademie Freiberg works closely with industry and supports companies.
The Institute’s research helps to boost the competitiveness of the foundry industry and contributes to environmental protection.
