Sustainable Operation of Research and Teaching

We are looking for ways to make ongoing university operations more environmentally friendly, for example through more thorough recycling, more renewable energy or reduced water consumption. Sustainability criteria can be taken into account even more in procurement. Climate neutrality on our campus is a long-term goal for which we need to define a time horizon that is appropriate for the university and the country.

Sustainable Mobility

We want to create more and better opportunities for our staff, students and guests to make their way to the university more sustainable. This includes not only improved infrastructure for (electric) bicycles, but also the offer of public transport, about which we must remain in discussion with the city, the state and the transport companies. For business trips, consider using public transport as often as possible. As far as reasonable, flights should also be avoided for distances of less than 1,000 km (as many other scientific institutions do).

Campus Habitat

With regard to the topic of biodiversity, existing potentials on the campus area should receive more attention. We can build on a tradition of ecological observations on the campus grounds of TUBAF and want to continue to work for higher quality of stay and biodiversity. The Advisory Board for Environmental Management will support all developments in this direction to the best of its ability and report annually on its activities as well as the results achieved. As always with sustainability, the positive effects always increase when personal and institutional responsibility are taken on in equal measure. Efforts will be made to find environmentally friendly solutions and to make them easily available to employees, staff and students within the institutional boundaries.
