The understanding of sustainability, which goes back to Carlowitz and has always been anchored in teaching and research at TUBAF, has continuously changed and developed since then as a result of the many institutional and social changes. TU Bergakademie Freiberg is guided by the comprehensive understanding of sustainability that the United Nations has formulated in the so-called Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 17 SDGs take equal account of all three dimensions of sustainability - social, environmental and economic. The SDGs are preceded by five core messages as guiding principles for action: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership.
