Since December 2023, TU Bergakademie Freiberg has been participating in the joint project "Zukunftsforum Klimafreundliche Hochschulen (ZKH)". In this project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, our university - along with a total of 14 other selected universities - is supported by netzwerk n, the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development and the University of Vechta. The funding consists of training, advice and network exchange.
The aim of the project is to reduce the university's greenhouse gas emissions by 10%, to develop a climate protection concept as part of a long-term, institution-wide approach and to implement this step by step. One of the central elements in the sustainability transformation process is the empowerment of students. This is achieved in particular through their involvement in the so-called "ZKH task force", which continuously supports and promotes the project at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The task force brings together all status groups at the university.

After the measures identified by the task force had been agreed with the rectorate, a workshop on these measures was held in Freiberg on July 4, 2025. Key findings were presented and, together with all status groups, it was decided which measures should be implemented and included in the climate protection concept, in particular which key measures the university members considered important. Thanks to the workshop, the task force was able to add new members and now represents the Freiberg university landscape even more than before. The next step will be to develop the second part of the climate protection concept and the action profiles, which will also be part of the climate protection concept.
