Together with the Foundry Institute at TUBAF, our team at the MSE Lab has developed a measuring system to make the production of sand cores in foundries more efficient.
Sand cores play a central role in the production of complex casting moulds, but their curing process has been difficult to control until now. This is where our new ultrasonic measuring system comes in: it monitors the catalyst content in the machine's exhaust gas flow in real time. This makes it possible to track how the cores are curing.
This has several advantages: The manufacturing process can be better controlled, rejects are reduced and the quality of production increases.
The results of our joint study with the Foundry Institute were recently published in the Journal of Sensors and Sensor Systems: https://doi.org/10.5194/jsss-14-99-2025.
