Exchange with the US and Chile
We are pleased to present information about our student exchange program with partner universities in the USA and Chile. Our program offers students the unique opportunity to discover new cultures, improve their language skills and gain academic experience at prestigious educational institutions. During the exchange, you will have the chance to study in an international environment, make new friends and strengthen your intercultural skills. Immerse yourself in student life at American and Chilean universities and experience a trip you will remember for a long time to come!
Our Exchange Agreements with US Universities
TU Bergakademie has student exchange agreements with the following partner universities in the US:
- Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg / Kansas (Info zur Pittsburg State University)
- South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, Rapid City / South Dakota
- Colorado School of Mines (only for students in Geo-Engineering!)
Please note that the academic calendar of our partner universities is different from the one at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
Exchange Places with Tuition Waivers
Our partner universities offer limited exchange places with tuition fee waivers. These places are usually advertised at the International Centre at the end of October/beginning of November for the following academic year.

Our Exchange Agreement in Chile, Universidad de Concepción (UdeC)
In August 2009 an exchange agreement between TU Bergakademie Freiberg and Universidad de Concepción was signed.
No tuition fees will be charged for participants of the exchange programme.
Universidad de Concepción offers courses in geosciences, engineering and natural sciences, among others.
Semester dates
- Semester I: starting in March
- Semester II: starting in August
Participants have to have finished three semesters of their study at the time of application. As Spanish is the language of instruction a very good knowledge of Spanish is necessary.

Our Exchange Agreements in Chile, Universidad Catolica del Norte, Chile (UCN)
In 2014 an agreement between TU Bergakademie Freiberg and Universidad Catolica del Norte was signed.
No tuition fees will be charged for participants of the exchange programme.
At Universidad Catolica del Norte courses in geosciences, engineering and natural sciences are offered

- Semester II: August - December
