Circular hike in Freiberg's northern district
If you fancy some exercise in the fresh air, would like to explore Freiberg's surroundings and enjoy a shared experience, you are cordially invited to join the hikes we are offering this semester. The hikes can be booked individually via the UniNow app. Participation fee 4 EUR per hike, plus any additional expenses for train and bus tickets and catering. Important: The hikes each last several hours and require physical fitness and suitable personal equipment (shoes and clothing suitable for hiking, rucksack with food and drinks for on the way, rain protection if necessary).
The meeting point for the hike is the car park at the junction of Münzbachtal and Hauptstraße Großschirma (unfortunately, it is not possible to travel by public transport). Those travelling by bike from Freiberg can meet at the Audimax at 12.30 pm and cycle together from there to Großschirma (approx. 5 km). From the starting point, we walk past the Churprinz mine into the Mulde valley, where we follow the former ore channel of the Christbescherung mine to the Großvoigtsberg barge lift. From there, we continue northwards to Kleinvoigtsberg, where various buildings of the former Alte Hoffnung Gottes mine have been preserved. At the former ore wash, we cross over to the other side of the Mulde and hike back to the starting point via Hohentanne and Rothenfurth. The hike is expected to end at around 5.00 p.m., walking distance approx. 11 km, approx. 220 metres in altitude.
