Accompanied by members of the Collegium Musicum at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, 44 students from seven countries were awarded a Germany Scholarship on 24 June. This will provide them with financial support for one or two semesters. Since the programme began at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg in 2011, a total of over 1,000 committed and talented students have benefited from the scholarship. This puts Freiberg well above the national average. Whilst only 1.2 per cent of students across Germany receive a Germany Scholarship, the figure at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg stands at 1.9 per cent.

The scholarship recipients were presented with their certificates at a ceremony held at the Centre for Efficient High-Temperature Material Conversion (ZeHS) and were then able to talk to the scholarship providers. “In addition to academic achievement, commitment and motivation outside of everyday student life are crucial factors in being awarded a Germany Scholarship. Supporting students who rise to challenges, take on responsibility and overcome difficult situations is an investment in the future,” says Professor Swanhild Bernstein, Vice-Rector for Teaching, Studies and Lifelong Learning at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. “Thank you to all our sponsors for their ongoing support!”

The next round of applications for a Deutschlandstipendium will be open from 1 July 2026.

I am writing my Bachelor’s thesis this semester. As part of this, I am testing various sensors from Endress&Hauser to assess their potential applications in biotechnology. All the parameters that can be continuously monitored using these sensors are very important for tracking microbial systems. I am testing the sensors in pure cultures as well as in environmental samples, including those with added contaminants and under extreme conditions. I am testing the sensors in pure cultures, as well as in environmental samples, including those with added contaminants and under extreme conditions. Through sampling and reference measurements, I aim to determine the operating range within which online monitoring using these sensors is effective and provides reliable readings.

Long-standing commitment from numerous scholarship providers

The scholarship programme owes its success to the numerous companies, associations, foundations and private individuals who each contribute half of the 300-euro-per-month scholarship for up to one year. The other half is provided by the federal government. Each year, an average of 74 scholarships are awarded at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, corresponding to a total annual funding volume of approximately 266,000 euros. The university organises the selection of scholarship recipients, arranges for the scholarship to be paid out and brings sponsors and young students together.

This summer term, the following foundations and companies are supporting the Deutschlandstipendium at TU Bergakademie Freiberg:

  • Endress+Hauser Conducta GmbH
  • Taubert Consulting GmbH
  • Bohr- und Umwelttechnik GmbH, Ingenieurbüro Wagner
  • Stölzle Lausitz GmbH
  • enviaM
  • Philipp Jakob Wieland Vocational Training Centre
  • Nickelhütte Aue GmbH
  • Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH
  • ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt GmbH
  • Dr Erich Krüger Foundation
  • Freiberg University of Mining and Technology Foundation.

Thanks to numerous supporters, a crowdfunding scholarship has once again been awarded.

It’s worth applying

The selection process takes into account good grades and academic performance, as well as social and community involvement. Special personal or family circumstances under which applicants are managing their studies are also taken into account. The selected scholarship holders receive financial support of 300 euros per month for a maximum of one year and benefit from a network of committed students and donors.
