Over the past few weeks, nearly 400 members of the university community have taken part in the vote on the new Fairtrade chocolate from TU Bergakademie Freiberg and chosen their favourites. The winners are the dark chocolate and the variety cashew nougat with wildflowers.
Both types of chocolate from the Austrian manufacturer Zotter are Fairtrade-certified, produced to organic standards and made using the bean-to-bar method.

TUBAF on the way to becoming a Fairtrade University
The chocolate tasting was part of the application process by TU Bergakademie Freiberg to become a Fairtrade University. Through initiatives such as this, the university aims to raise awareness of fair supply chains, sustainable consumption and global responsibility, and to bring Fairtrade to life in everyday university life.
The event was supported by the Environment Working Group and the EURECA-PRO project. The Fairtrade Town Freiberg initiative, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, was also represented. This gave visitors the opportunity to find out about fair trade, sustainable consumption and the town of Freiberg’s commitment to Fairtrade, and to engage in conversation.
The two winning varieties will expand the range of Fairtrade products on campus to include yet another sustainable product in future.
