The DAAD programme “Europa macht Schule” is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, volunteers from all over Germany gathered in Frankfurt am Main in June for the annual meeting. TU Bergakademie Freiberg was also represented: Habiba Elzeftawi and Caecilia Lucius from the Freiberg site team, as well as the Argentine student Candela Poggi, took part in the event.

The commitment shown by the Freiberg team was recognised: although the local team narrowly missed out on an award, Mandy Brumme, a teacher at the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Freiberg, was named ‘Most Dedicated Teacher’.

The TU Bergakademie Freiberg has only been participating in “Europa macht Schule” for two years. In the current programme year, ten projects have now been implemented, in which international students share information about their home countries, cultures and personal experiences with German school classes. The honours at national level underscore the successful development of the site and recognise the commitment of all those involved.

The Freiberg team is looking forward to welcoming new members for the coming programme year. We are looking for committed students who would like to help organise the ‘Europa macht Schule’ programme locally on a voluntary basis. International students are also warmly invited to get involved with their own school project, thereby sharing insights into their home country, culture or personal experiences. Anyone interested can get in touch with the Freiberg local team now.
