Application and admission

You have familiarised yourself with the research profile of TU Bergakademie Freiberg and would now like to apply for a doctorate at our university?

The following explanations will guide you through the application process.

Application process

If you have already found a supervisor who can supervise your desired doctoral topic, or if you are interested in participating in one of our doctoral programmes, please send your application documents directly to these persons or to the spokesperson of the doctoral programme.

Speakers of the doctoral programmes:

  • Doctoral programme of the CRC 799 "Trip-Matrix-Composite": Prof. Biermann
  • Research Training Group of the CRC 920 "Multifunctional Filters for Molten Metal Filtration - a Contribution to Zero Defect Materials": Prof. Aneziris
  • Dr. Erich Krüger Research Training Group "Bio-Hydrometallurgical Centre for Strategic Elements": Prof. Schlömann

An application via the Graduate and Research Academy is possible for advertised topics.

Applicants who already have a valid scholarship or other funding commitment can submit their application to the Graduate and Research Academy at any time, regardless of the calls for applications, and propose their own doctoral topic.

The application documents will be forwarded to the potential supervisor responsible for the topic after checking for completeness and fulfilment of the admission requirements. The selection of suitable applicants is carried out exclusively by the respective representatives of the professorship.

What documents do I need to submit?

  1. CV
  2. Certified copies of degree certificates and degree certificates of the relevant degree programmes; for alumni of TU Bergakademie Freiberg a simple copy is sufficient
  3. List of previous scientific work and publications, if available (maximum one page)
  4. Information of the chosen topic and the topic code number (for path 2)
  5. Detailed description of the planned topic (depending on the individual faculties and institutes) incl. work and time schedule (proposal)
  6. Proof of German or English language skills

Please note that only complete applications will be accepted. Therefore, please ensure that you submit all the necessary application documents!

Please send your application by email to corina [dot] dunger [at] grafa [dot] tu-freiberg [dot] de (Dr Corina Dunger).

And after the application?

Only if the potential supervisor agrees to supervise the topic and you as a person, please complete the declaration of intent and submit it to the relevant faculty together with all the necessary documents about the supervisor. The faculty decides on admission to the doctoral programme.

Information on the declaration of intent and the admission procedure can be found in §7 of the promotion regulations of the respective faculties.

Applicants who are subject to a visa requirement must submit an application for admission to the doctoral programme.

All other doctoral students are also recommended to enrol as doctoral students. This is possible for all doctoral students, even if they are employed by TU Bergakademie Freiberg or another employer and regardless of the scope of their position. To enrol for a doctorate at TU Bergakademie Freiberg, please apply via the university's application portal. You will then be guided through the online application and enrolment process. Send the signed enrolment form together with the required documents to the Admissions Office.

Note: Applicants who were already enrolled at TUBAF and have obtained their doctoral degree here should only send the signed application for enrolment and the letter of intent signed by the Faculty Council to the Admissions Office. All other documents are already available in your student file.

If you have any questions, please contact the admissions office.
