To do a doctorate, apply personally and directly to the relevant professors in your subject area or the contact persons of the relevant research groups or junior research groups.
Admission requirements
- Diploma, Master's, Magister degree or Staatsexamen from a university in Germany (degree equivalent to German standard)
- Only in exceptional cases: Bachelor's degree with outstanding achievements at a university in Germany. A preparatory phase of at least two semesters and an aptitude assessment procedure are also required for admission to doctoral studies. The applicant should hold a degree in a subject area related to the dissertation topic.
- Master's degree (FH) or Diploma (FH): under certain conditions (see § 4 of the doctoral degree regulations)
- A degree from a university or higher education institution abroad: TForeign qualifications are checked by the Information System for the Recognition of Foreign Qualifications (www.anabin.de), taking into account equivalence agreements between countries, to determine whether they fulfil the requirements for admission to doctoral studies in Germany. On the basis of this examination, the Faculty Council of TU Bergakademie Freiberg decides on admission to doctoral studies. The Faculty Council may impose conditions on admission to doctoral studies. Good to very good knowledge of German or English is also required.
- Doctorate in another scientific field: The responsible faculty council decides on additional examinations to be taken if the doctorate is to be in a branch of science that does not correspond to the completed university degree.
All doctoral candidates at TU Bergakademie Freiberg are subject to the doctoral regulations of the respective faculty.
Note that conditions may be imposed on admission to doctoral studies (attending additional modules and taking examinations) if the doctoral degree is sought in a scientific field that does not correspond to that of the university degree or if interdisciplinary dissertations are involved.
Doctoral students are responsible for independently acquiring the knowledge required to successfully work on the doctoral topic.
